A Day in the Texas Hill Country

Are you looking to get out and enjoy the amazing Texas Hill Country?
Here are some fun ideas that show both the history & beauty of Texas!

1. First thing I recommend EVERY ONE to do is hike Enchanted Rock - this impressive monolith can be tackled in a 2 hour hike or a full weekend of camping - there is that much to do! Make sure you plan your trip early, especially if it is Spring Break.  The park typically reaches max capacity by 10 am - you will have to wait for people to leave to get in after this...but trust me, it's worth it!

2. Learn more about President Johnson at the LBJ National Historic Park - Tour the ranch at your own pace, stopping at LBJ's Birthplace, the Johnson Family cemetery, and take a tour thorough the "Texas White House".

3. Walk the depths of the river-formed Longhorn Cavern State Park - Comanche Indians were the first to use these caverns as well as Confederate Soldiers, who made gunpowder in secret during the Civil War.  And now you get to tour it all.

4. Tour the Canyon of the Eagles on a Vanishing Texas River Cruise - A 2 hour cruise along the Colorado River Canyon to see waterfalls, tall cliffs, and Texas Wildlife.  Keep your eyes open for a Bald Eagle too!

5. Catch a World War II re-enactment at the National Museum of the Pacific War - In the small town of Fredericksburg,  sits a gem of a museum.  Featuring the Nimitz Museum, the George H. W. Bush Gallery and the Pacific Combat Zone, this museum is very modern and will interest history buffs of all ages.

6. Grab a slice of pie at the Blue Bonnet Cafe - Since 1929, this Marble Falls staple has been serving up the best pie in the Hill Country.  Catch their pie happy hour form 3 -5 and grab a slice of your favorite (over 15 too choose from!).  It's a tie for apple, peach, or peanut butter in our family!

Now you're just trying to taunt me for not picking Texas this Spring Break aren't you? I'm gonna get there soon, even if it's just so I can say that I climbed this Enchanted Rock!
