Friday Daydreamin': Texas Love

Happy Friday! My favorite day to Daydream about where I'd rather be......

Growing up in Texas, I visited the Hill Country all the time.  I love the rolling hills, cedar trees, and untouched feel to it. I knew that it was good ranching country, but never really looked past the lakes I loved so much.  Until recently.

I took my kids out to Stonewall to visit the LBJ Ranch & the Texas White House.  It is a self-guided tour and they provide you with a delightful narrative CD to listen to as you drive around the Ranch.  One particular moment, as the CD played an inspiring Texas song, I looked out the windows and gasped.  The sight (not captured as well as I’d like in photo), truly displayed Texas.  Rolling hills, green grass, slow-moving cattle, and a country song on the radio.  It was my quintessential Texan moment.

Just ignore the airstrip on the right where President LBJ would fly “Air Force one-half” to his Texas White House.  That was totally out of place.

I've only ever been in the Dallas Fort Worth airport (which was uncomfortably hot even with air conditioning). I'll have to visit the rest of the state someday soon - while I can still eat Texas sized portions of steak!

I love learning all about Texas from you and Jessica! Love the photo - cattle grazing in the field is exactly the image that I get in mind when I think of Texas.

Texas often gets a bad rap but most of what I've seen in Texas - and I haven't visited the hill country yet, has been beautiful.I bought two Texas oil paintings when I was there - with cows and rolling pasture. Love how they remind me of the beautiful countryside.

I once had a moment like that driving through the steep canyon walls of Zion National Park with an operetta or something on the radio and it was magic, I recall.

I know that you're still trying to lure me to Texas with all these green grass pictures and hills, but I've watched enough westerns to know that everything in Texas is covered in dirt and there are gunfights at high noon every day. You can't fool me.

Well, actually you can. It's not even all that hard. Guess I'll have to come find out for myself.

Don't think I've ever seen Texas so green. Must have been there the wrong time of year :)
