5 Fun Labor Day Activities in Austin

Labor Day weekend is upon us!  Who would have ever thought that summer would fly by so quickly??

If football/soccer/swim/volleyball schedules haven't started back up (or even if they have), you have a 3 day weekend.  What to do??

Here are 5 fun ideas to get out with the family this Labor Day Weekend:

Cathedral of Junk
Hidden in a backyard in South Austin, this 3 story work of art is a blast to explore.  Find lost relics from your childhood or just ohh and ahh over how much work has gone into it.  The owner is home on the weekends and welcomes visitors.  Admission is free (but a donation is great!) and plan on spending at least an hour explore.  Great for kids too.

Inner Space Caverns
Looking to cool off? Right up I-35 in Georgetown is a wonderful escape from those high Texas temperatures. There are 2 guided tours to choose from, both great for kiddos of all ages.  Even my 3 year old enjoyed this cave tour!

Pioneer Farms
Take a trip back in time at North Austin's Pioneer Farms. See & do life as it was in Central Texas during several different time periods.  Docents show you how food was prepared, animals were taken care of, and more.  Ask lots of questions - they LOVE teaching!!

Zilker Park
We are blessed to have some incredible parks in the Austin area.  One of the biggest, that features the most to do, Zilker Park is located near downtown.  Explore the Austin Nature & Science Center and dig up some bones in the Dino Pit.  Take a ride around the park on the Zilker Zephyr and cool off with a dip in Barton Springs.  While your downtown, head on over to South Congress or South First for some excellent trailer park dining!

Enchanted Rock
I know you have been talking about going to Enchanted Rock for a while now.  This weekend is the perfect time to plan a climb up this amazing monolith!  Just a short 90 minutes west of Austin, plan a full day of climbing & exploring. Make sure to arrive early to get in, as a wait can start by 10 am.  While you are out there, grab some amazing BBQ at Coopers in Llano or a slice of heavenly pie at the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls.

There is so many more things to do here in Austin - this is just a short list of ideas to get you started.  Have a super Labor Day Weekend and enjoy time relaxing whatever your plans may take you!
