Chuy's Children giving to Children Parade ~ Austin, TX 2012

Chuy's Children giving to Children Christmas Parade
Saturday, December 1, 2012
11:00 AM (1 hour long)

Chuy's annual Children Giving to Children Christmas Parade is this Saturday (December 1, 2012) and we can not wait to go.  Benefiting Operation Blue Santa, children are asked to bring a new toy to donate during the parade.  The parade starts at the Capitol and travels down Congress Avenue all the way to the Congress Ave bridge.

The parade features giant inflatable balloons (think Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade), Festive floats, marching bands, cool cars, and the best part.......SANTA!!  We have been to Dallas Children's Medical Center Parade for many years - made it a tradition - seeing the excitement of the kids as they see some of their favorite characters wave at them or float on by is the best way to usher in the holiday season.  Plus the marching bands always play great holiday tunes.

But honestly, the coolest part of this parade is when the parade progression stops to collect toys.  Santa's helpers line the parade route and collect for Operation Blue Santa - these toys all go to local children who may be in need of some Christmas Cheer.  It's a win-win - I can't think of a better way to teach your kids to give this season.

This tradition began in 1989 with the owner of Chuy's Restaurant wanting to find a unique & fun way to give back to the community of Austin.  Year after year, the parade has grown in both size and donations.  Several community sponsors help make this free event happen.

So the biggest question for me is - Where to park? and Where to sit? I am going to be asking around to get those questions answered and hope to update soon!  If you have any insight, please leave a comment below!
