Austin's Trail of Lights ~ December 8-22, 2013

One of Central Texas's most exciting holiday events, the Austin Trail of Lights is back for a 48th year December 8-22, 2013.  Our family loves the Trail of Lights and make a plan to see them every year.  This year, the lights will be on for 15-days with new activities and experiences that make "Austin - well, Austin".

“The Trail of Lights is our true, Austin winter holiday celebration,” said Mayor Lee Leffingwell. “The 2012 Austin Trail of Lights was the largest event in Austin, gaining national attention as one of the top ten holiday lighting events in the country by USA Today. The 2013 Trail of Lights continues that tradition for our community, showing the world that Austin is a place where we take community celebration and support seriously.”

The 2013 Trail of Lights will offer exciting holiday activities for all ages and occasions, including family outings, corporate events and even romantic strolls.  The world’s tallest man-made Christmas Tree, towering 155 feet, will return once again, along with the 1.25- mile trail of lights, featuring some new additions, including:

  • More than 30 lighted displays, highlighting favorite holiday characters and Austin icons
  • New and improved parking, shuttles and traffic management
  • Expanded dining areas featuring the diverse tastes of Austin’s finest food trailers
  • Entertainment from a variety of local, regional and national performers
  • Family-friendly activities, including holiday photo opportunities, crafts, and of course, a visit with Santa
  • A hospitality area for company and group parties
  • A merchandise area for smart shopping
  • Opportunities throughout the trail to donate to local charities

To help guests plan their visit, the Trail of Lights website will feature a schedule noting special guests and featured events for the 15-day lighting showcase.
