I think by now, you all know my affinity for all things Texas. Born & raised here and got back as soon as I could, I love our state. What I love the most is the history and the Texans who fought so strongly to win our Independence back in March of 1836. And I love finding towns that celebrate this history as well.
Granbury, Texas, just a little ways south of the DFW Metroplex, is celebrating Texas Independence Day with the March 2 Texas on March 1 & 2, 2014. This 2 day celebration includes a parade, Chuck Wagon cook-off, mutton-bustin', silent auction, bull-riding, history competitions, bands and more!
Started in March 2012, three men decided to honor the heroes of the historical battle of the Alamo in 1836 with historical reenactments in Granbury. It was a part of a plan to educate people about Texas and it's "rich history."
One unique aspect of March 2 Texas is the Student History Competition. Students of all ages are invited to create an essay, exhibit, artwork, or video presentation on "Rights and Responsibilities in the fight for Texas Independence from Mexico.” What better way to encourage children to really learn about our history!!

- Chuck Wagon Cook-off on the Beach

- Ceremony that includes a presentation of colors, poetry, and more.
- Mutton Bustin' on the Beach
- LIve Bull Riding and Calf-Scrambling for Kids on the Beach
- Cowboy Church
- Memorial Service at the Cemetery
- Live Music all day
