12 Fun Things to do for Kids at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa ~ Austin, TX

I am such a fan of a staycation at a resort - especially when the resort has so much to offer kids & families.  Such as the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa on the outskirts of Austin, TX.  Not only do they have an incredible pool, lazy river, and fun night time events for all ages, we recently discovered some other really great things to try next time you are there.

12 Fun Things to do for Kids at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa

Arts & Crafts Under the Trees

Hyatt Regency Lost Pines has an incredible staff that plans fun activities for kids - from games on the lawn to scavenger hunts with family, these are fun event for all ages.  When we first arrived and our room was not ready, we sat under the trees and made some wooden figures together.  Even though it was July, the shade and wonderful breeze was very comfortable.  Later in our stay, they "branded" leather necklaces.
Activity Rating: Great for my 5 year old son & 13 year old daughter

Water Park

Truth be told, my kids could spend all day at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines pool and be perfectly happy. If there wasn't so many other cool things to do.....  The pool is really more of a mini water park with a fun water slide, volleyball & basketball area, beach front entry, splash pad and more.  They recently updated everything in the pool within the last year or so, including adding great canopies for shade.
Activity Rating: Fun for all ages

S'mores

Who doesn't love a little sweet treat after dinner?  Each night, the resort hosts a big bonfire and invite you to make your own s'mores.  Make them just the way you like it and have as many as you want, they are as easy to make!
Activity Rating: Awesome for those who love s'mores

Meet the Mini Mascots

Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort has animals all over the property - including these adorable "mini-mascots". They have an actual time to meet them with a handler, but at anytime, you can walk over to their pen and see these gentle creatures. If you're lucky, they will mosey on over to get a scratch behind the ear.
Activity Rating: Perfect for Preschoolers and Animal Lovers

Bike Rides

We love the collection of bikes of every size & shape the resort has available for guests to check out.  We went for a leisurely ride one morning after breakfast.  All the huge trees the resort has make a wonderful shady area to ride in.
Activity Rating: Even though they had bikes with training wheels, my big kids enjoyed riding bikes more

Storytelling with JD

Each evening, in the lobby, JD brings some creatures from his own collection out to meet with guests. He loves to teach guests all about snakes, birds, and more and tell you all kinds of fun stories.  But this is not the only time you can catch him.  JD can be found wandering all over the property with creatures.  We ran into him several different times within our stay, all with a different "pet".  He lets the kids touch/pet them, teaches them about it, and answers every question they may have.
Activity Rating: Great for elementary-aged kids and their parents

Lazy River

Grab a tube (there are plenty) and take a spin (or two.... maybe 3) around the shady lazy river that winds around the pool.  It's so peaceful and relaxing, this momma could spend her whole day here.
Activity Rating: Tubes do not have bottoms, so kids need to be able to hold themselves up. My kids enjoyed it, but didn't make it "lazy & relaxing" like their mom did.

Pony Rides

Trailhead Renegade at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resorts offers horse & pony rides as well as archery. My 5 year old was invited to try a pony ride and was escorted by 2 lovely teens around the area on Bo.  Afterwards, we could pet him & pose for pictures.  As I mentioned, they have 35 horses that go out on several long horseback rides as well.  I thought it was great that they had an option for the little kids too.
Activity Rating: Awesome for my 5 year old son and those not ready for horseback

Movie Under the Stars

Every night, the activities staff inflate a big, portable screen to show movies on - they showed Monsters University, Brave, & Frozen while we were there.  They serve free popcorn and bring out big towels to stretch out on while you watch the movie.
Activity Rating: Even though they had seen all the movies before, all 3 of my kids enjoyed it

Build Sandcastles

Did I mention there is a beach entry to the pool, and that is is filled with sand?  For my kiddos, who didn't get to see beach this summer, this was a great opportunity to build some fun sand creatures & castles.  Also, you can pull a few beach chairs into the area to sit in the water while your kids play - it's not the beach, but it's the next best thing!
Activity Rating: Great for preschoolers and elementary ages

Horse-drawn Wagon Rides

The horse-drawn wagon rides ended up being one of our favorite things we did.  As they pull you around the property, a nice young man tells you all about these majestic horses, even showing you their horseshoes and answering any questions you may have.  Afterwards, you can pet the horses and pose for pictures.
Activity Rating: Great for my 5 year old son - he asked a ton of questions

Meet the Horses

If you don't have the opportunity to ride on the wagon, take a moment to walk or bike ride around the property to meet some of the animals.  The longhorns, horses, and alpacas are friendly and would love to say hello.  We met these 2 horses (King Author & Guinevere) while we were on our bike ride.  They were cozied up to the fences just begging to be loved on.
Activity Rating: Perfect for my teenager - my youngest was intimidated by their size

There are many other activities that we did not have a chance to try during the 3 days we were there such as birding, kayaking, rock wall & zip lining, archery, fly fishing, tennis, golf, tractor-drawn hay rides, painting your pony....the list goes on & on. There is truly something here for everyone.  Most of the recreation activities are included in the resort fee ($25 per room per day).  Some do have an additional fee.

It's fun opportunities like these that show you, this is not just a hotel, but a world-class family resort. They cater to bringing you a full Texas Experience, from trail rides to s'mores, you can relax and experience it all.  The employees are knowledgeable and helpful.  I love that you can stay at one resort for a week and have a different experience everyday without ever leaving the property.

Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa remains one of my favorite resorts in Texas.  I highly recommend trying it, especially if you can't get away for vacation.  After a few days here, you won't need one.

Disclosure: My family & I were invited to visit Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa and were provided rooms.  I was not paid for this article.  All opinions are my own.

New Year's Eve at Hyatt Lost Pines Resort ~ 2013

If you're anything like me, I wait until the day of New Years Eve to make plans.  It always seems to get hidden with the Christmas planning and becomes an afterthought.  But not this year - I've already started planning and found that one of my favorite resorts, the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines, has a pretty cool event planned for that evening, one that will definitely create some fun family memories.

First and foremost, you are at a first class resort out in the beautiful Texas pines.  But when you add in all the fun events they have planned, you know a night at home blowing horns as you watch the ball drop in NYC on the TV would never compare.

Take a look at some of the fun you could be having:

  • Carnival-Style Jamboree: Open to guests only, carnival games for prizes, rides on a ferris wheel at night, face painting, balloon artists and more are just some of the fun you will experience.
  • Family dance at Firewheel Pavillion
  • Holiday Wagon Rides
  • Visits with Resort Mascots - garb a picture on T-Bone, one of the Texas Longhorns
  • Complimentary champagne or Shiner Bock beer toast at midnight
  • Fireworks Show
  • New Year's Day Breakfast Buffet

Yep, that definitely sounds way better than an evening at home.

Not to mention, the resort also offers horseback riding, golf, wilderness hikes, and a world-class spa. My kids will spend as much time as they can in the heated water park.  Packages also include a New Years Day breakfast buffet for the family.  So, I get to have all that fun that night and have a wonderful breakfast cooked for me the next day? Sign me up!

Christmas Events at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines ~ 2013

Sometimes the best way to relax during the holidays is to go away.  And lucky for us in Central Texas, the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort is close by.  Think about it - get caught up in last minute shopping, crazy baking, or present-wrapping frenzy....... or spend relaxing days with your family, riding horses, making s'mores by the fire, or taking in a spa treatment or two.  This is a no brainer guys!

I have always been a HUGE fan of the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines.  My family really enjoyed how much there is to do together.  The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines offers fun water activities (my kids LOVED the lazy river), outdoor fun (horseback riding, golf, bikes, crafts....), and fun evening activities (gotta try the make your own s'mores bar).  And for the holidays, they have so many fun things planned.

Just glancing through their scheduled daily activities will make you want to book a room.   You can enjoy cookie decorating, ornament making, tractor-drawn hay rides, and family Holiday Scavenger Hunts (full schedule here). On Christmas Eve, there is story-time with Mrs. Claus and photos with Santa.

The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort is also offering a special Christmas Day Buffet for guests.  They will also have family flag football, a scavenger hunt, and more - sounds like a wonderful way to spend Christmas with the family.

If you are thinking of heading our after Christmas, later that week, next door at McKinney Roughs there are some fun outdoor events planned.  Kayaking the Colorado, Sunset Floats, rockwall climbing, and free stargazing are being offered.  Check here for the full schedule.

Lastly, on December 28 from 7 am to 3 pm, the Third Annual Lost Pines Christmas Bird Count takes place. I'll be honest, I had no idea what a "bird count" was until I heard of this event - but it sounds pretty fun! This nationwide event, sponsored by the National Audubon Society, collects vital birding data through this event.  The Resort is one of the sponsors of the Lost Pines event and is offering classes, fun meals, and a special rate for the package.  Click here for more details.

And if you think all this sounds fun, wait to see what the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines offers for New Years!!  Check back next week......

5 Reasons to take a Couples Weekend to the Lakeway Resort & Spa ~ Austin, TX

Last weekend, I was able to sneak away from the house with just my husband and enjoy a Couples Weekend at the Lakeway Resort and Spa just outside of Austin, Texas.   It's not often I write about going on vacation without your children, but I do recognize the importance of getting away with just your significant other. It was such a fantastic way to reconnect and relax - I recommend everyone try to get away.

And for those of you who live in the Central Texas area, the Lakeway Resort & Spa is the perfect place to go.  Located just west of Austin, right on Lake Travis, this resort is set away from the hustle and bustle of the city, so you really are "getting away from it all". The Lakeway Resort offers so many great amenities that make you feel pampered and relaxed.

Here are 5 Reasons YOU should book a Couples Weekend at the Lakeway Resort & Spa:
 1. The Pool - The Lakeway Resort features a 3-level infinity pool for 21 and over.  As much as we all love our children, it is really nice to lay by a pool and not hear them (sorry!). The bar is conveniently located right in the pool with lots of great sitting areas.  One of our favorite things to do was hang on the edge of the infinity pool and gaze at the lakeview.

There are plently of chaise lounges available to sunbathe and read.  Our routine was to bake in the sun while reading, grab a drink, and hit the pool....over and over and over....
 2. The Sunset - Lakeway Resort has lots of different vantage points to see this gorgeous Texas Sunset. Whether it be from the balcony off your room to Happy Hour on the Back Porch to the pool, there is something so relaxing about this view.

3. Masterson's Steakhouse - We enjoyed the sunset along with a terrific steak dinner from Masterson's the evening we stayed. Lakeway's new restaurant, Masterson's has a gorgeous bar and seating on the deck outdoors. The staff was attentive and the meal was delicious.  It was really nice to have such a wonderful meal on site and not have to travel anywhere.
 4. Coffee on the Balcony - I love a serene view with a steaming cup of coffee in my hand, don't you?  The view off our room was beautiful (don't make any cracks about the water levels being down, as there was plenty of activity to watch on the lake!).  Just being able to sit and have a nice conversations with no children asking for breakfast was the most delightful way to start my day!
 5. San Saba Spa - Unbeknownst to me, my sweet hubby booked us a couple massage at Lakeway's San Saba Spa. The Spa is beautiful and relaxing with gorgeous porches to sit on before and after your treatments.  The massages were wonderful - totally a great way to wind down before heading back out to the pool for the day.
All in all, the Lakeway is a terrific place to get away for an overnight or weekend trip.  I love my children, and I love having great adventures with them, but it was really nice to have adult conversations and bond with my sweet husband with no distractions.  We both needed it.  I can;t recommend enough the importance of getting away with your significant other and the Lakeway Resort & Spa has all you need to make it exceptional.

The Resort offers so much more than I have mentioned here - check out their Romance Packages if you want to jazz up your stay even more.  And they are always having great weekend specials, look at their Back to School limited time offer.

So do it - find someone to watch the kids and book your weekend away - you won't regret it!!

Disclosure: The Lakeway Resort & Spa offered me a media rate for our stay.  All opinions are my own.

Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort Adds Nice Upgrades

Looking for a fun place to have a quick get-away this summer??  Look no further than the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa.  One of our favorite Central Texas resorts has added some really nice upgrades this past winter and are ready for a busy summer season!

I was recently invited out to see the changes made at the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa - all designed to make your summer visit that much better!

Guest Rooms
The guest rooms at the resort went through a major overhaul - from new wall coverings to new carpet, to new mattresses and bedding, the rooms take on a whole new feel.  The look is very natural, Texas-pine inspired and it is beautiful.  I have always felt that the resort resembled a quaint Texas retreat and now the rooms really reflect that feel as well.
Crooked River Water Park
I never thought the water area at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines needed any upgrades, but they have them now! The splash pad was updated, the sandy beach was widened, and the slide was repainted.
Additionally, the resort installed an all new food & beverage area at Old Buck's Place, making it even more convenient to enjoy lunch or dinner by the pool.
Family Fun
One of our favorite things we did as a family last summer during our stay was to watch a movie under the stars.  The resort has moved the location of the nightly movies to the amphitheater with the beautiful Colorado River as the backdrop - this accommodates even more families.

The special event planners have added even more fun events to their daily plan, getting the whole family involved in Family Olympics and Scavenger Hunts.  I like the idea of mom & dad putting their cell phones down and playing with the kids!

And the Wild Hare Spa for our sweet kiddos has been moved to a special location in the Spa Django.  Look at this adorable set up for mommy & me pedicures!
Restaurant Upgrades
Both Firewheel Cafe & Sheller's Barrelhouse Bar have undergone some beautiful renovations to their decor.  The subtle changes gave them both a great facelift.
Additionally, last year Hyatt introduced the "For Kids, By Kids" menu where children have healthy but fun options to choose from like waffle dipping sticks, make your own breakfast taco, and build a sub sandwich.  They are in control!

Summer Activities
As usual, the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort has some great summer fun in store for us!

Celebrating dad here for Father's Day should be easy with Daddy & Me pedicures at Wild Hare Spa, golf packages, and a yummy Chop House Buffet on Father's Day.  The National Day of the Cowboy will be celebrated in July with Cowboy-themed activities, an animal parade, and roping demonstrations.    And there is always the Lost Pines Kids Outfitters Package to take advantage of as well.

Lots of great reasons to head to the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort this summer.

Lakeway Spa & Resort Spring Break

Last week, I had a little fun listing all the great places to go in each major city in Texas for Spring Break.  But what if you've exhausted that list?  Or just want to go to a resort, get pampered and relax here in Texas?  This week, I have tons of great ideas for you!
The Lakeway Spa and Resort, located on the shores of Lake Travis, is a quick getaway for a few days from the Austin area.   We loved our stay with the kids last summer - they could have spent the entire time in their gorgeous pool!  With it being heated now, you can still time on that water slide!

The Kid Zone offers a variety of activities to keep your kids busy. From arts & crafts to horseshoes, kids love hanging out watching movies, playing video games or just being silly. They have a "ga-ga" pit that my kids are still talking about.

For the active enthusiasts, the resort is conveniently located steps away from the Lakeway Marina, Texas Sailing and nearby Golf.  Treat your family or friends to an afternoon on Lake Travis or a golf outing at one of the four nearby courses.

For the relaxation seekers, lounge poolside in the heated Sunset Pool with beautiful lake views or sip a favorite cocktail at the swim-up bar.

One of my favorite ways to relax is at the San Saba Spa.  Take a look at their fun Spring Specials that will get your skin nourished and sun ready:

That’s a Wrap - $100
Kiss the cold season goodbye with a Signature Wrap. Tone and tighten with Lumafirm, detoxify with Moor Mud or hydrate with Tropical Escape.

Mineral Stone Massage - $132
Traditional 50 Minute Colorado River Rock Massage, performed with Malachite Gelee. This gel is rich with anti-oxidative minerals to fight off toxins beneath the skin and promote a clear complexion.

Spring Break Spa Escape - $210
A 50 Minute Aromatherapy Massage, a delicious spa lunch and top it off with a Traditional Manicure and Pedicure.

Holiday Happenings at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort ~ Austin, TX

Looking for something different this Holiday? Why not get lost in the pines by heading out to one of our favorite resorts, the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines.  Think about it - get caught up in last minute shopping, crazy baking, or present-wrapping frenzy....... or spend relaxing days with your family, riding horses, making s'mores by the fire, or taking in a spa treatment or two.  Sounds like a winner to me.

I am a HUGE fan of the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines (no, I'm not on staff here).  Our family enjoyed a few days this past summer here and monthly my kids ask to go back.  We were so amazed at how much there was to do together.

Just glancing through their scheduled daily activities makes me want to live there - seriously - As much as I'd love to be that Martha Stewart-type, I fail miserably - but I could take the kids to Hyatt Regency Lost Pines and we could enjoy cookie decorating, ornament making, tractor-drawn hay rides, and family Christmas movies each night (full schedule here). On Christmas Eve, there is story-time with Mrs. Claus and photos with Santa.  Think I can sell this to my hubby???

The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort is also offering a special Christmas Day Buffet for guests.  They will also have family flag football, a scavenger hunt, and more - sounds like a wonderful way to spend Christmas with the family.

If you are thinking of heading our after Christmas, later that week, next door at McKinney Roughs there are some fun outdoor events planned.  Kayaking the Colorado, Sunset Floats, rockwall climbing, and free stargazing are being offered.  Check here for the full schedule.

Lastly, on December 29 from 7 am to 3 pm, the Second Annual Lost Pines Christmas Bird Count takes place.

Barton Creek Resort & Spa ~ Austin, Texas

Nestled in the hills outside of Austin, lies another amazing resort, full of family fun and relaxation.

When I first moved to the area years ago, everyone mentioned the amazing Barton Creek Resort & Spa as the place to go for a weekend of golfing & spa - perfect for hubbies & wives to do.

As I was researching family friendly resorts in the area, I was so excited to see that it offers a ton of family fun as well!
Barton Creek is tucked away in the hills west of Austin.  The drive to the resort is literally breath-taking and what we loved the most was the immediate feeling of relaxation that comes over you as you drive up.

The 4 golf courses that surround the resort are stunning - ones that would make my hubby completely forget he has a family waiting back at the hotel.....

But we were there to check out the family fun....not golf (sorry honey!).
After we checked in and took a brief tour of the resort, we headed straight to the pool.  With 2 sparkling pools and a nearby Pool Cabana, this momma was happy to spend the afternoon right here.
That evening, we had no plans, and were pleasantly surprised at all the family fun activities Barton Creek Resort & Spa offers.  After dinner, we took a lovely hike down the nature trail, played a quick game of mini golf, and finished it up with a fun game of chess! And the next morning, after breakfast, the kids and I enjoyed a fun scavenger hunt around the resort.  There was a TON of fun things to do!!
As I mentioned previously, there are 4 amazing courses if the adults wanted to play.  If relaxation is what you were looking for, Barton Creek has an amazing spa.  But what to do with the kids?  The resort offers a Kids Club, for ages 6 months to 8 years.  My youngest spent a little time in here playing trains, legos, and more.
The rooms are stunning - with very comfortable accommodations and amenities.  But honestly, the best part of the room was this amazing view I woke up to:
Ahhhh....can't you just feel the relaxation?  Ultimately, that is what Barton Creek Resort & Spa does best - making you relax.

If you have no plans for Labor Day, the Barton Creek Resort & Spa is the place to be.  With an All-American Poolside Cookout & Activities, Family movies, and more, I can't think of a more fun way to say good-bye to summer!
