In 2004, we took our then 4-year old daughter to Disney World for the first time.  It was a magical experience and we have been back 3 times since.  After the 3rd trip, a Christmas one, we vowed we were done.  Our kids had gotten older, been there, done that.

This past summer we spent 2 days at Disneyland & California Adventure - mainly to see Carsland for my now 4 year old son.  And that old spark of love for all things Disney quickly made a come back.  Everything is just done SO WELL at Disney Parks.  Every little detail is perfectly planned to enhance your visit.  You can;t help but spend the whole day smiling.

I've got the itch again, I want to go back to the World.  And now I need to break it to my hubby......

Friday Daydreamin': Tearin' Up Tulsa

Last weekend, I went on my annual girls trip.  The 6 of us meet each year in a new location and this year was in Tulsa, OK.  We stayed in a gorgeous B&B - Stone Creek Bed & Breakfast which had the BEST breakfast & gourmet desserts.  We had late nights and lazy mornings.  We shopped, painted, talked, ate (a lot), and laughed until our bellies ached.  And we took our annual picture - I love the colorful mural!!

The 6 of us are not really all that alike - but we get a long so well.  Though we only see each other once a year, we always seem to click right away.  This is a group of women that I would love to have as neighbors. I cherish our weekends we have!!

This weekend, I'm heading out on a girls trip.  My friends and I try to gather at least once a year for a much needed weekend of wine, culture (?), and laughter.  This is our third year - and we visit a new city each year - this year??  It's a trip up to Tulsa, OK to stay at a Bed & Breakfast.  Honestly, we could go to the middle of nowhere with these special ladies and we would have a blast.  I'm so looking forward to this weekend!!

On our Bigger Than Texas Road Trip this summer, we took on a little mascot - Our State Farm puppy, named Tex went everywhere with us - from the Grand Canyon to Disneyland to Las Vegas.  He saw just as many sites as we did!!  He even had his own hashtag on Facebook & Instagram (#sftex).

 Yesterday was our hometown parade for Independence Day - and NOTHING says community better in my opinion.  I just love the bands, the scouts, the floats, and the heroes.

Especially those who were honored in a special way.

Its the very unfortunate cost of our freedom, our Independence Day.

I hope you had a wonderful day reflecting our freedom.  We did here in Texas.  

And today, we spend the day packing and getting ready to leave for our 3 week road trip.  AHHHHHHH----> There is still so much to do!!!

A year ago from today - this was my view. sigh.

We are forgoing our annual trip to the beach this summer for our road trip.  And while I will be missing those lazy days at the beach, I am thrilled to be seeing so many new sites with my children. It all starts in a week and 2 days!!!

I have mentioned before that we are taking a BIG Road Trip this summer - 3 weeks of glorious exploring!!  And we have come up with the BEST name (thanks to a sweet friend!).  We are calling it the:

Two weeks into our summer vacation here in Texas - TWO WEEKS??!! Man, it has flown by.  But we have already experienced so many fun things - ziplining, Schlitterbahn, SeaWorld, canoeing Lady Bird Lake in Austin, and more.  We are going to be exhausted if we keep up this pace!!

And with our 3 week road trip in July, it's going to be a fantastic summer!

Summer is here for us in Texas!  School is out, the weather is HOT, and we had our annual "Welcome to Summer" trek to our favorite water park this week - Schlitterbahn in New Branufles, Texas.  It was a perfect day to slip down the slides, catch some rays, and despite FOUR applications of 50 SPF sunblock, get a sunburn.  Welcome to summer indeed!

Do you have big plans for Memorial Day Weekend? We don't - we are heading to a soccer tournament for my daughter.  Good thing is, it's in one of my very favorite cities.

San Antonio feels like home to me.  Even though I only lived there until I was 12, I have a certain sense of comfort when I visit. 

 It is such a beautiful and historic city, that I thought I'd give you the "birds-eye" view of it today from one of the prettiest landmarks in the city, the Tower of America.

What catches your eye first?  Is it the red Torch of Friendship given to San Antonio by Mexico?  The sunflower roof on top of the convention center?  How about the box-shaped hotel between the two - the first hotel that was pieced together room by room by crane? The rooms were completely made up (including the TVs) before being placed together like an intricate puzzle.

Maybe your looking for the Alamo?  That's it right in the center - the white domed roof surrounded by trees.  You can't see the iconic front that everyone is familiar with from here - but it quickly identifiable to all Texans.

I just love this city.  Do you have a favorite city?

Friday Daydreamin': My Youngest Traveler

My youngest traveler turns 4 this weekend.  He is by far the easiest kid I ever had - maybe cause he's my third - maybe cause we have drug him all over since he was an infant - whatever it is, he's the best little traveler.  

And he's seen a lot in his 4 short years....

 From the beaches of the Pacific Northwest....

 to southern Florida......

He's slurped soup from a bowl with no spoon....

 And sampled some of Texas's finest ice cream....

 He's fed goats, and pigs, and stingrays and giraffes.

 And he braved the bitter cold when we took him skiing for the first time this year (though truth be told, he had a terrible stomach bug the whole trip that he barely left the condo).  We'll go again little man.

Happy Birthday to my youngest traveler! May you always enjoy new experiences and new places as much as you have in your few short years!

Last weekend we took the kids on a quick trip down to South Padre Island.  It's at the very tip of Texas, real close to Mexico and surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico.  It was the first time we had all visited as a family and it was wonderful!

These kids were spoiled by spending the day at Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark......

And just a few minutes from our hotel room, we had the beach to explore......

 And before heading home, we popped up into the only lighthouse in Texas you can go up in......

It was a pretty cool weekend if I do say so myself!  It was the perfect family get away.  

This weekend is filled with a concert, football, soccer, and other bits to keep us busy, so I will be daydreaming about being away with no commitments to take care of......

No daydreamin' for us today -we are heading to the beach!  We are surprising the kids with a quick trip down to South Padre Island (about as south as you can get in Texas).  We are staying in a resort on teh beach, so I plan to have my feet in the sand!!  

For the past 2 summers, we have taken a week to go to the Florida Panhandle and fully relaxed ont eh white sandy beaches there.  This year, since we are heading West, we are not going to FL.  So, it was the perfect opportunity to check out SPI.  We shall let you know!

I have spent all my free time (what's that??) this week on planning our upcoming summer road trip.  So today, I am most definitely day dreaming about our 3 week trip thru New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado.  We are stopping at National Parks, kitchy roadside attractions, fun restaurants, going to "CarsLand" - (my 4 year old's pic) and making one amazing memory!!!  I can't wait to tell y'all more about it.

By now you have heard about the horrific accident in West, Texas.  The stories coming out of this sweet Texas town are heart-breaking.  I wanted to take a moment to tell you more about this wonderful town today.

West, Texas is the half-way point between my home here in Central Texas and my parents home in the DFW area.  It's the perfect little stop for a potty break.  And I certainly can't resist buying a kolache or two....or more each time I stop.

The Little Czech Bakery in West, Texas is known Texas-wide (and further, I'm sure) for their amazing baked goods and their friendly faces.  Always greeted with a smile, I love to frequent this business.

A tragedy like this brings Texas together as a family - I have been overwhelmed to see so many giving blood today and setting up donation drives and food deliveries for the West area.  Sometimes, it is so sad to see that it takes an accident of this magnitude to bring us together.  But then again, it's heartening to see human spirit bonding together to help one another out.

My thoughts and prayers are with the lovely town of West today.  Please think of them for a moment today as well. Thanks.

The Countdown is on - after today, there are SEVEN weeks left of school.  I don't know about you, but I am knee-deep in summer vacation planning.  I want to go to the beach, to Disneyland, to the Grand Canyon, to Washington D.C., to the Pacific Northwest, and Desert Valley.  And maybe a cruise.  Hmm.....how do you narrow it down when there is only 12 weeks of summer???

So, for now, I will daydream - me on a beach - reading a book - no writing deadlines - just me & this view.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh - that's better.

Today we celebrate my oldest's 12th birthday, so I'm daydreaming about all the fun travel we have done with her. 

 She's been to Disney World quite a lot but this was her first trip and the smile says it all.....

 Her first trip to a "big" city involved her first taxi ride, the top of the tallest building she has ever been in, and Chicago pizza.....

 Always up for adventure, she will try anything - roller coasters, skiing, and anything in the ocean!

 And she takes after her momma in the love of anything kitchy and pop-culture-y.

I love that we have traveled extensively with her since she was small - she is adventurous and loves to explore new things.  She loves learning history and "seeing" where it took place.  She is flexible and ready to always be on the go.  She is a perfect little traveler!!  Can't wait to see where we go next!
