Natural Bridge Caverns ~ San Antonio, TX

One of the best ways to escape the Texas heat is to tour one of our 7 underground caverns.  One of the BEST in the state is located just south of New Braunfles, Natural Bridge Caverns.
Fascinated by the 60-foot limestone bridge, 4 college students in the 1960s were sure there were large caverns underneath it.  Sure enough, they discovered a beautiful site and the landowners decided to develop the first half-mile of the caverns, what you can see on the "Discovery Tour".
A guided tour takes you 180 feet below the surface where you will see breathtaking structures.  Hear all the names....stalagmites & tites and straws and what nots (why they are always hard to remember once you come above ground, I'll never figure out).   Regardless of their names, they are stunning to see. You will also see the largest underground cavern in Texas and be amazed by it's size.
There are other tours you can choose from as well.  Even some long adventure tours complete with caving equipment for the non-claustrophobic types.

We also discovered some other fun activities to do on the grounds, which made for a full day. Climb up the Watchtower Challenge (50 feet tall and Texas's tallest climbing wall & zip line) and Zip Line down.  For the young ones, we enjoyed panning for gold at the Natural Bridge Mining Company.
As a child, I loved coming to the Natural Bridge Caverns and was so excited to see my kids just as fascinated with it.  It is one of those places you could see over & over again and always see something new.  It is reasonably priced, but coupons are available (Entertainment Book has one!) to make it even more affordable.

And don't forget to grab a pic of your kiddos posing on the dino!
