Austin Children's Museum's Gingerbread House Workshops 2012

Every year, against my better judgement, I buy a gingerbread making kit for my kids.  I think it is going to be a fun bonding experience where we make wonderful Christmas memories.  And every year, we end up getting making a huge mess, rushing through the fun to make all the candy stick to the icing and I barely get to take any pictures.

So this year, I am taking my kids to one of the Austin Children's Museum Gingerbread House Workshops.  They provide all the kits, optimal Gingerbread House making directions from "pros", and you leave the mess behind?  YES!!!

And they even have a workshop for those 5 and under called Teetertots Workshops.  Participants have the option of ordering a pre-built gingerbread house,  so the little ones can spend all their time decorating their houses with candy.

Workshops are $30 for members and $35 for non-members per gingerbread house and accommodates 3 people per house (1 adult per child 3 and under).  There are many workshops to choose from and you must make reservations by calling the Museum office at (512) 472-2499 x201, Monday - Friday 9 am - 5pm.  Hurry - workshops begin on December 1st and spaces go fast!

If you can't make the workshop but would like to pick up a kit (the gingerbread is made homemade from La Mexicana Bakery!), they are $19.99.  The kit includes everything you need to build your own gingerbread house except the powdered sugar for icing.
