Young Adult Book fest {YAB Fest} ~ Round Rock, Texas

The Young Adult Book Festival (or YAB Fest) is a brand new book festival designed to promote reading among teens in the suburbs and surrounding areas of North Austin and northern Central Texas. YAB Fest will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm at the Round Rock High School.

The goal of the day long festival is to provide students from Round Rock, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Leander, Taylor, and the Lake Travis school districts with a phenomenal experience to meet and interact with a wide variety of authors writing in different genres. The founders of YAB Fest feel that when students have the opportunity to meet an author or hear them speak in person, they see a much higher independent reading rate.

“We have managed to pull from a broad range of both local, regional and national authors, representing multiple genres including fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance and contemporary YA books,” said Danny Woodfill, owner of Round Rock’s Book Spot and one of the event’s organizers. “We wanted to appeal to as many kids with as many types of fiction as possible.”

Authors David Levithan and Andrea Cremer, who will jointly deliver this year’s keynote address, best exemplify this diversity. Levithan is better known for his best-selling contemporary YA fiction while Cremer has gained a loyal following for her best-selling paranormal romance series. Together the two have written a new fantasy book, Invisibility, blending their two distinct styles.

The other twenty attending authors will be speaking in panels that will be running throughout the day. Please visit http://yabfest.com/2013-authors to view a complete list of all of authors. All of the authors will also be available to sign their books at the end of the day.
